She was a part of the crew of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla's boat Madleen, which attempted to break Israel's illegal blockade on the occupied Gaza Strip to supply humanitarian aid.

Since the ceasefire collapsed in Gaza, Israeli forces have escalated their attack, killing and injuring tens of thousands of civilians. The UN estimates that over 640,000 have been forcibly displaced, with people confined to an ever-shrinking space.

Israel has previously attacked boats part of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla and intercepted the Madleen on international waters and detained its crew earlier this week.

EU's hypocrisy can be seen in the human rights abuses it funds in other countries, it's crackdown on minority rights within member states or through its inaction for our shared climate.

The world is waking up to the injustice caused by centuries of colonisation, occupation, slavery and capitalist exploitation.

Yet, polarisation and misinformation can hinder the important reckoning needed.

Further, feminist solidarity is being questioned from within movements and attacked by external forces like media and institutions.

On this World Mental Health Day, we must recognize the impact of human-made disasters on children and young people.

Whether from armed conflict or natural disasters due to the climate crisis, young people often endure unthinkable distress.

Children and young people are deeply affected by war and crises. The mental health burden that they bare is still difficult to comprehend, and research is only uncovering the surface of a global mental health crisis. With this in mind, we must let compassion lead. Polarization and divisiveness serves no purpose in improving mental health outcomes for young people.

A new UN report, "Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The Gender Snapshot 2023," exposes the world's shortcomings in achieving gender equality and women's empowerment. The report calls for immediate action, highlighting the need for an additional $360 billion annually to bridge the gap.

Despite global efforts, the world is falling short of achieving gender equality.

The UN report sounds a critical alarm. Immediate action, collaboration, and increased investment are essential to ensure a world where every woman and girl enjoys equal rights and opportunities.

Several crises are exacerbating inequality. Anti-rights movements are gaining ground and digital spaces are used to fuel discrimination. That's why action, collaboration and increased investment becomes ever more urgent!

Earlier this month, a large fishing boat carrying an estimate of 750 people on board sank off the coast of Greece. Only 104 were brought to Kalamata. It's feared that 650 people's lives have been lost in the shipwreck, and among those 100 children. Despite knowing that the ship was in distress, Greek authorities ignored alarms made.

Europe is actively targeting the rights of refugees, and those upholding their rights.

Today, we can look back and see how social media has been used to spark movements of positive change. Young people from around the world have been inspired to join protests against racial injustice and women's rights. They've held global and national leaders accountable in the midst of a climate crisis - a lot thanks to social media.

Even Girls' Globe has social media to thank for its early growth back in 2013. Yet, in a post-me-too world that's only beginning to recover from a pandemic, we can also see how social media has been detrimental for personal wellbeing, democracy and human rights.

So, it makes sense to ask. Can you be a feminist and STILL use social media?
