Ana Laura Araya is the Executive Director and Co Founder of Soy Niña, a girl-serving organization that works in urban communities in San Jose, Costa Rica.
“I saw that there was a need for something in Costa Rica, and there was nothing at the time, nothing like Soy Niña.”
– Ana Laura Araya
We talk about her work, about the challenges of starting and managing an organization like Soy Niña. She shares some incredibly inspirational stories from the girls in the community and some of her own. We talk about girls’ self esteem, about hope and the motivation to take action.
Ana Laura studied journalism and photography and graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta. She has worked at nonprofit organizations and private foundations for over fourteen years and has experience in the areas of communications, event planning and fundraising. Ana Laura just recently finished a certificate degree in Nonprofit Management from Harvard Extension School. She’s very passionate about raising awareness on the challenges that girls below the age of 18 face worldwide.
Ana Laura encourages us to take action, to do what we can, while caring for ourselves at the same time.
“There are so many non-profits, there are so many causes, there are so many different things we can do. However, there’s so much need in the world!”
