Hi, I’m Azra—host, producer, and someone who genuinely believes that when young people speak up, the world shifts. I’m also a youth advocate with IPD (Member Association of IPPF EN) from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the current Chair of the YSAFE Steering Committee. In this article I want to share the experience of producing a youth-led podcast on sex positivity, gender equality and SRHR. The podcast’s title is Sex Positivitea with YSAFE.
Sex Positivitea started as a small idea and quickly became one of the most powerful projects I’ve ever had the privilege to lead. I remember nervously recording our first episode, unsure if anyone would listen. Fast forward to now—season four—and I’m still amazed by the conversations we’re having and the connections we’re making.
This podcast is a love letter to every young person who’s ever felt left out of the conversation about their own body, identity, or rights.
It’s not perfect. But it’s real, raw, and entirely youth-powered.
So, what’s brewing this season?
We’re talking about the things that often get whispered about—or worse, ignored entirely. But we don’t whisper on Sex Positivitea. We speak up, loudly and unapologetically. Season 4 shines a spotlight on stories from young activists who are challenging norms, reshaping their communities, and showing what real leadership looks like.
We dive into why Comprehensive Sexuality Education matters—not just in schools, but in all the spaces where young people learn, live, and grow. It’s education that saves lives, fosters consent, and empowers young people to shape their future. We unpack the myths and offer honest truths about how eating disorders affect young people and hear from people living with endometriosis, sharing their stories of pain, perseverance, and navigating systems that too often fail them.
What this podcast has taught me.
For me, Sex Positivitea isn’t just a project. It’s a space where I’ve grown as an activist, a storyteller, and as a person. Producing Sex Positivitea has shown me that youth-led media is more than a trend. It’s a necessity. Our voices carry truth, nuance, and power that no one else can replicate. We’re not waiting for permission anymore—we’re grabbing the microphone and speak out on our own terms.
Four seasons later, it still blows my mind that people are tuning in from across Europe and Central Asia to hear what we have to say. Every episode is written, recorded, and produced by young volunteers—no filters, no gatekeeping, just us talking about the things we wish we had learned earlier.
Working on this podcast has been one of the most empowering parts of my activism journey.
It’s a wild mix of vulnerability and pride, every single time we publish another episode.
To conclude, I think that youth-led media like Sex Positivitea aren’t just “nice to have.” They are necessary. They are proof that young people don’t have to sit and wait for institutions to care—we can make our own platforms, build our own narratives, and invite others in. That’s the power of youth organizing, and that’s why I’ll always believe in this work.
