Aid Afghanistan for Education has been working hard to enroll street-working children into private schools, allowing them to explore their potential and end the cycle of poverty. However, enrollment is just the beginning; students also receive transportation, lunch, a school uniform, and homework assistance!

Ali (name changed) is one such child who has benefited from our program.

Ali was only 4 years old when his drug-addicted father left the family. His mother took his sister and disappeared shortly after. Ali was left with his grandmother who washes clothes at peoples homes in order to pay the bills, and his aunt, who begs for bread next to a bakery every day. When we found Ali, he had been selling chewing gum on the streets to earn 30 AFS ($0.34) a day to contribute to family food.

“Since Ali doesn’t have parents anymore,” shared his grandmother, “I worried about his future and thought he would become like his father. Now that he is going to school, I am relieved and have much hope for him.”

Ali shared that he wants to become a doctor when he grows up. When asked why, he said, “Because I want to cure people who don’t have money. My grandmother’s arm is becoming disabled because she has washed people’s clothes for so many years, and we don’t have money to treat her.”

With Ali enrolled in school and receiving an education, his dream of becoming a doctor could become a reality.

Since the cessation of US federal funding through USAID, we rely on individual donors to help keep children like Ali in school and off the streets.

  • With a donation of $30, you will provide a student with an entire month of transportation to and from school.
  • With a donation of $50, you will provide a student with an entire month of tuition.
  • With a donation of $55, you will provide a student with school supplies for an entire year.
  • With a donation of $60, you will provide a student with a summer and winter uniform.

Every penny counts. Together, we can break the cycle of poverty through the power of education and offer children in Afghanistan hope for a new beginning.
